Seven of us from the AAV went down to Messiah last Saturday morning at the crack of dawn, to help out with their Christmas Baskets. Upon arriving, we were greeted in the main hall by about 60 other volunteers who were busy packing these Christmas "baskets." They weren't baskets at all, but rather -- large loads of groceries for 110 families in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Messiah purchased a few tons of groceries including wonderful fresh vegetables, ham, apple pies, fruit, and even cool whip for the apple pies! Each family received two bags and one box of groceries. All the details were taken care of, down to the red ribbon that would get tied on the grocery bags.
Evelyn Hoey, Pastor Bob's wife, said that one of the greatest parts of this outpouring is that over the years, some of the families who received and still receive these groceries, come to the church to help them package them up for other families.
